Davey Crocket Trip

Last weekend we took a little trip to visit the birthplace of Davey Crocket. It was nice to get away and take a relaxing break from the business of life.  It was a perfect weekend for riding. This was the first time this summer that we have been able to go on a motorcycle camping trip. It was a well needed break.

Day 1:

We stayed at Davey Crocket State Historic Park. It has been a long while since we stayed in a State Park. I had forgotten about the lights and noise that accompany this type of camping. The hosts were very nice. We were the only ones camping there with motorcycles.  Both of our neighbors said they rode bikes but didn't have them there. One of our neighbors offered us smashed pop cans so we could use them as kick stand plates. This was quite helpful since we had to park on loose stone.  Him and his wife were very nice. Without his help I would have worried all night. The Star Spangled Banner keeps playing through my brain.... insert motorcycle :).

Once we got camp set up we set out for the Living History display at the home site of Davey's birthplace. This reminded me of homeschool days when we would enjoy visiting reenactments. I can see my boys participating in something like this some day. It is interesting to see authentic period clothing.

The reenactment wasn't specifically about Davey Crocket, but more about the wars that were fought during that erra and how it affected families, and one family in particular.

Log Cabin-Davey Crocket
Seeing this cabin with  6 inches between logs filled with mud made me very appreciative of our home. So glad we don't need to go out and fill in cracks like this all the time.  No mosquito protection in this cabin. There should also be no problem here with materialism. There is no place to keep anything.  If it rains it has to be able to withstand the flooding possibilities. The only things that can be kept are the essentials!! Hey, maybe we should move in, lol!!

Day 2:

breakfastWe packed a bag of food and cooking supplies. Meals are so much more fun when cooking outside. I grabbed some mashed potatoes, eggs, striples, bagels and cream cheese for the trip. For cookware I had a Jet Boil, the large jet boil pan, a small spatula, two flat bowls, and two Firelight spoons.  The first night Fred's spoon broke in half. I used the cream cheese for oil with the scrambled eggs, although it didn't melt very good. It did taste good!
Harrisburg Covered Bridge

The river was beautiful, we could hear the water running over the falls all night.  We chose to go back by way of The Foothills Parkway. On our way there we found a covered bridge and went to check it out. It was a one lane covered bridge and is used constantly. The Harrisburg Covered Bridge.

Motorcycle Harrisburg Covered BridgeThe Foothills Parkway has a new section that we happened upon, so we hopped on there. The views were amazing. So glad we got a chance to ride it before the trees start growing up and blocking the scenery.

So glad we took this break. It was nice to spend time together, relaxing, and able to be out in nature.
